“It is not more surprising to be born twice than once; everything in nature is resurrection.” —Voltaire

“I believe … that the soul of man is immortal and will be treated with justice in another life, respecting its conduct in this.” —Benjamin Franklin

“I look upon death to be as necessary to the constitution as sleep. We shall rise refreshed in the morning.” —Benjamin Franklin

Franklin wrote this epitaph for himself at age 22 but it was never used:

The Body of B. Franklin Printer,
Like the Cover of an Old Book,
Its Contents Torn Out
And Stripped of its Lettering and Gilding,
Lies Here Food for Worms,
But the Work shall not be Lost,
For it Will as He Believed
Appear Once More
In a New and more Elegant Edition
Revised and Corrected
By the Author
